PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Zachary Spicer, actor and producer of the film Ms. White Light.
Zachary Spicer is the producer and actor in Ms. White Light, in competition at the 37th Torino Film Festival. At the festival, the actor describes what was the starting point for him and his best friend, director Paul Shoulberg when they decided to talk about what in America they call “death doula”, a professional consultant that accompany people in the last moments of their lives. At first it was Zachary Spicer who was supposed to play the main character but then they thought it would be better to have a female protagonist with the charisma of Roberta Colindrez to give it such a strong and defined personality. Ms. White Light is a way to exorcize death and it makes the spectator reflect on what the most important things in life are. The film attempts to answer: the most important thing in life is to earn somebody’s affection and love.
Ms. White Light: Lex Cordova is a young woman who counsels terminally ill clients that have trouble letting go. While proving uniquely talented in her ability to connect with the dying, Lex is at a total loss when it comes to dealing with everyone else. Armed with only the misguided guidance of Gary, her father and business partner, unsolicited loyalty from Nora, a former client obsessed with samurai culture, and an awkward romance with Spencer, a seductive, but morally ambiguous psychic, Lex struggles to help Valerie, her most challenging client yet.
