Veiko Ounpuu chats with FRED’s Chiara Nicoletti about FREE RANGE, his new film and Estonian Entry at the Academy Awards 2014 ” FREE RANGE. The film is screening at the 64th Berlinale in the FORUM section of the Festival. More than a film ,FREE RANGE is similar to a poem, it narrates the story of Fred, an aspiring writer and artist, who, after geting fired from a magazine and finding out that his girlfriend is pregnant, tries to change direction to his life and becomes a forklift operator. In this attempt of getting out of a system that condemns art to fit certain standards, he inevitably falls into another structure. Fred’s adventures are accompanied by a 70′s hippie rock and portrayed through a 16mm camera. Free Range is poetry in cinema as it makes you feel like you’re living in a poem.
