Teodor Corban – actor – Aferim!
FRED’s Chiara Nicoletti meets Teodor Corban, actor in Radu Jude’s film Aferim!, from the main competition of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
Teodor Corban plays Costandin, a policeman of 19th Century Romania who travels through the country in search of a fugitive Gypsy slave. Teodor Corban explains that at first he was reluctant about auditioning for this role because he wasn’t happy about having to ride a horse for the whole film. When thinking about the future response of Romanian audience to the film, since they often complain about the films being too sad and realistic, Teodor Corban hopes that the ironic way in which the film deals with issues of Romanian past could be a useful tool to deliver some powerful messages.
Plot: In 19th century Romania, Costandin, a policeman of the time and his son travel through the country in search of a fugitive Gypsy slave.
