Shaibu Husseini – Film journalist and critic
This is an extract from the 2015 Berlinale Talent panel discussion “Hybrid News: Documenting True Events” from the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
In this extract, established journalist and film critic Shaibu Husseini talks about the current state of documentaries and documentary filmmaking in the Nigerian film industry, otherwise known as Nollywood, which also just so happens to be one of the biggest and most successful film industries in the world.
Shaibu Husseini is a Nigerian journalist and film critic, writing for The Guardian in Nigeria’s former capital Lagos. His book on the national film culture, called “Moviedom…the Nollywood Narratives: Clips on the Pioneers” was published in 2010. Last year he was honored as the “Best Film Journalist and Nollywood Critic” at the annual Nollywood Film Festival in Germany.
