Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard is set to open the 42nd edition of the Torino Film Festival (TFF) with the international premiere of his highly anticipated film, Eden. The event will take place during the festival’s opening ceremony on November 22, 2024, at the prestigious Teatro Regio di Torino.
Ron Howard, known for directing iconic films such as Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and The Da Vinci Code, will personally introduce Eden, adding star power to one of Italy’s most esteemed film festivals. This marks the film’s exclusive debut in Italy, thanks to Italian International Film (Lucisano Media Group), in collaboration with Rai Cinema. Eden will soon be distributed by 01 Distribution.
Starring a top-tier ensemble cast, including Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney, Eden explores the tumultuous lives of idealists who escape civilization only to encounter unexpected challenges.
Synopsis of Eden
Set in 1929, Dr. Friedrich Ritter and his wife Dora Strauch, two European idealists, abandon the conventional bourgeois values of Germany and relocate to the remote Floreana Island in the Galapagos archipelago. Their peaceful retreat is disrupted when other settlers arrive, including Margaret and Heinz Wittmer and the eccentric Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn, who brings her lovers and a plan to build a luxury hotel. Struggles for survival in the harsh natural environment quickly escalate into power dynamics among the residents, turning their island paradise into a dangerous battleground.
The 42nd TFF will also feature Cristiana Capotondi as its official Patroness. Capotondi, a renowned Italian actress, director, and cultural entrepreneur, will co-host the opening ceremony alongside the festival’s Artistic Director, Giulio Base, on November 22, 2024. Known for her compelling roles in films directed by international figures such as Ferzan Özpetek and Terry Gilliam, Capotondi has had a prolific career, with over 50 films to her credit.
In addition to her role as Patroness, Cristiana Capotondi will present a special Carte Blanche session, where she will engage with the audience and introduce a film that has profoundly influenced her personal and professional life.
Giulio Base expressed his admiration for Capotondi, stating: “I am happy to have Cristiana Capotondi as the Patroness of my first TFF as Artistic Director. Her beauty, elegance, and dedication make her the perfect representative for the festival, and I am confident she will bring her unique touch to the event.”
The 42nd Torino Film Festival will be held from 22 to 30 2024
