Rolf De Heer, Co-Writer/Director, Charlie’s Country.
Festival Section: Un Certain Regard.
Writer/Director Rolf de Heer is no stranger to the Cannes film festival as he brings his fourth film CHARLIE’S COUNTRY to the big screen in competition for un Certain Regard. The film follows Charlie ,a man who just wants what is rightfully his – he wants a house, but instead he is living in a shack trying to make ends meet. This mesmerising performance by David Gulpipil sees two cultures collide as Charlie’s aboriginal roots clashes with living in contemporary Australia, in this moving tale of the fight to maintain one’s cultural identity and ancient traditions in an ever-changing world.
David Gulpilil won the Best Actor prize at the 67th Cannes Film festival.
Reporter: Amanny Mohamed.
