With his second feature film Between Us, Rafael Palacio Illingworth opens the 34th Torino Film Festival. The film, analyzing a couple going through that passage in life in which marriage could become an option after years of living together. the idea of the film came from Illingworth’s real experience with his partner that afterwards became his wife. Why are we never happy of what we have and we’re always looking for more emotions, passion, attention outside the life we should be happy and glad in? Palacio Illingworth tries to answer with Between us.
Between Us. Henry and Dianne, both thirty years old, must come to grips with the reality of their life as a couple: the years of their youth, made of adventures, new encounters and a future waiting to be discovered, are over. What awaits them is the nightmare of normality and adulthood: a house in the suburbs, one or more children, and a dog to walk. But is this really what they want? When the tension results in a separation – albeit for just one night – they will find the answers they are searching for.
