Philip Doherty - Redemption of a Rogue #GalwayFilmFleadh fredfilmradio
PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Philip Doherty, director of the film Redemption of a Rogue.
A conversation with Philip Doherty, whose feature directorial debut, Redemption of a Rogue, took home the Best Irish Film and Best Irish First Featyre awards at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh. In this podcast, Doherty talks about his background in theatre and what prompted him to make a film. He also talks about the origins of the story of Redemption of a Rogue, its biblical references and prominent use of a sense of humour.
Redemption of a Rogue: Jimmy is a nihilist who carries around a black leather doctor’s bag containing the rope he plans to hang himself with. Filled with guilt and shame, he returns to his hometown in the cold austere beauty of West Cavan. As soon as Jimmy visits, his ailing father breathes his last. Thunder rumbles and rain starts to pour. But there is a condition in the will… his father cannot be buried on a wet day. Days roll into weeks in an endless rainy purgatory, with some colourful local characters, as Jimmy seeks redemption.
This interview was featured on our weekly show, Big FRED Tuesday.
