Nilita Vachani – Filmmaker – Eyes of Stone
FRED’s Matt Micucci meets legendary filmmaker Nilita Vachani, whose first feature Eyes of Stone from 1990 was screened at IDFA 2014. Nilita talks to us about how the film was made, why she thinks the type of audacity she employed in tackling this film is effective when employed at a young age and she also shares with us her opinions on how things have changed in documentary in the age of digitalisation of cinema.
EYES OF STONE is an unsettling testament to the resilience and the tragic circumstances of deprived rural Indian women that particularly follows the story of the healing process of a young 19-year-old mother Shanta, who is herself considered “possessed”.
