  1. PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Nick Rowland, director of the film Calm With Horses.
An interview with Nick Rowland, recorded shortly after the screening of his feature directorial debut, Calm With Horses, presented in the First Feature Competition strand of the 2019 BFI London Film Festival. The director talks with us about immersing himself in the landscape of the West of Ireland, where the film was shot and where it is based. He also talks about central themes of predestination and how he reflected the character study of the script (written by Joe Murtagh) by constructing a cinematic language, and more.

Calm With Horses: In darkest rural Ireland, ex-boxer Douglas ‘Arm’ Armstrong has become the feared enforcer for the drug-dealing Devers family, whilst also trying to be a good father to his autistic five-year-old son, Jack. Torn between these two families, Arm’s loyalties are truly tested when he is asked to kill for the first time.
