“My stolen planet”, interview with director Farahnaz Sharifi Chiara Nicoletti
After premiering at the latest edition of Berlinale, “My stolen planet“, a documentary by Iranian director Farahnaz Sharifi is screening at the 37°Bolzano Film Festival.
In the style of a diary, Farahnaz Sharifi, let her personal archive about her family and her joyful private life inside closed doors interact with 8mm recordings of strangers’ lives to testify the different realities in her oppressed country.
Starting from the title of the film, Farahnaz Sharifi says: “This is a story about two kind of different realities happening in my country, inside it is my planet, outside its theirs”.
“My stolen planet” as the director agrees, is not only a film about women in Iran or about life in a regimented oppressed country but it is about the women all around the world and a universal reminder of how we should never take some rights for granted.
Born during the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, Farah captures moments of joy and defiance in her daily life, navigating the contrast between domestic freedom and external oppression. Simultaneously, she collects 8mm archives from people she doesn't know. Relying on others' recordings, she gains a new perspective on lost memories.
