Matthias Schoenaerts – actor – Maryland

FRED’s Bénédicte Prot interviews Matthias Schoenaerts, lead actor in Maryland, the latest film by Alice Winocour, presented in the Un Certain Regard section of the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

Matthias Schoenaerts talks about the way he prepared in order to really embody Vincent, a soldier back between two tours in Afghanistan who silently suffers from PSTD, while being alert enough to protect a rich wife and her kid.

The Belgian actor describes how he actually became his character, blurring the limit between fiction and reality. Matthias Schoenaerts has been rather busy since Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone.

He is currently in Thomas Vinterberg’s Far from the Madding Crowd (also starring Carey Mulligan), and soon to be seen in Oscar-winning British director Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl (opposite Eddie Redmayne, amongst others) as well as Italy’s Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming effort, A bigger splash, shot in English with another star-studded cast including Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton.

MARYLAND: A soldier suffering from PTSD, hired to work security in a big mansion, becomes a walking paranoid bomb, in this enclosed space, as he manages to save to day.
