Interview with Malene Choi, director of The Quiet Migratin, presented at the 2023 Sydney Film Festival in the program strand “Europe! Voices of Women in Film”.
The Quiet Migration: She presented her debut feature film, The Quiet Migration, in the Panorama section of the Berlinale 2023 and now Malene Choi is participating to the Program strand Europe! Voices of Women in Film, presented by the European Film Promotion at the 2023’s edition of Sydney Film festival. The film is inspired by Choi’s own experience as a South Korean born, adopted and raised in Denmark and it tells the story of Carl, a Korean adoptee, raised in the pastures of rural Denmark who struggles with identity and dislocation. The film has been defined by the Berlinale as a surreal meditation on transracial adoption. Malene Choi talks about the genesis of the film, its dramatic but also comedic tone and the reason why she chose a male protagonist.
