Louis Garrel – filmmaker – Two Friends (Les Deux Amis)
FRED’s Bénédicte Prot meets filmmaker Louis Garrel, who talks about his latest work Two Friends (Les Deux Amis) from the Semaine de la Critique of the 68th Cannes Film Festival.
Louis Garrel envisages his role as director and scriptwriter as that of a piano-tuner and disk-jockey.
He tells us about co-writing with Christophe Honoré, being in front and behind the camera, his thorough work with the actors to obtain spontaneity and intimacy, the depth of lightness, and passes on a piece of advice from Jean-Claude Carrière which made for a fantastic scene in his film.
TWO FRIENDS (LES DEUX AMIS): Two Friends is about Abel (Louis Garrel) and Clément (Vincent Macaigne), two clumsy, hopelessly romantic young Parisians with nothing but their friendship. When they “kidnap” Mona (Golshifteh Farahani), a wild and fun food-vending girl Clément has fallen in love with, their “bromance” falters.
