PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews Kirsikka Saari, director of the film After the Reunion.
Fred Film Radio is media partner of the European Film Promotion (EFP) Future Frames, which presents ten outstanding young directors with their latest work at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Director Kirsikka Saari, from Finland, was among them at the 52nd edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and she presented her short film After the Reunion. In this interview, Molter talks about her film, how her opinion on our relationship to ageing served to inspire this story, the challenges of using a sense of humour in her film without making fun of her characters, her experience as part of this year’s Future Frames in Karlovy Vary, and more.
After the Reunion: fifty-year-old Saila doesn’t wake up after a class reunion in the most comfortable position. A long-forgotten former classmate is in bed with her, and despite the fact that he’s enjoying their morning together, she’d rather suppress the entire situation. While toned with humor and tenderness, the encounter after so many years also reveals disappointment and a hangover of moral dimensions.
