PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Joaquin Del Paso, director of the film Maquinaria Panamericana.
After presenting his first film Maquinaria Panamericana at the Guadalajara Film Festival and being compared to Luis Bunuel in the approach to his characters and setting, Joaquin Del Paso is in Torino competing with his film in the official section of the 34th Torino Film Festival. In a modern Mexico that at the same time it looks like it’s set in a out of time place, after the death of their boss, the faithful workers of the factory Maquinaria Panamericana lock themselves up in the company and react, their own way, to this loss and to being suddenly unemployed.
Maquinaria Panamericana: The Maquinaria Panamericana garage is an ideal place to work: the mood is perfect, there’s harmony among the employees, the rhythm is relaxed and nobody ever says no to a coffee break. All this under the benevolent gaze of their boss, Don Alejandro. This is why the employees are thrown into a panic one morning when they find him dead. Not only have they lost the best boss in the world but they soon discover that they also risk losing their jobs, since the garage is bankrupt. At this point, there don’t seem to be many solutions to the problem and the best one is to keep Don Alejandro alive…
