A conversation with Hristo Simeonov, director of the acclaimed Bulgarian short film Nina, which recently won Best Short Film at the UK Film Festival in London. The film tells the story of a young Roma pickpocket and a chance encounter at the station where she is based that may change the course of her life. Simeonov talks about his connection to stories about young children, the realist style of his movie and shares news about his upcoming plans to make his feature-length directorial debut.
Nina: Nina, a 13-year-old pickpocket with a sharp and wise look, is checking the content of a man`s wallet she has just stolen. She is staring at the unknown family pictures with curiosity and sadness… A little later, Nina is captured in her next attempt to steal. Surprisingly, the victim Yana refuses to surrender Nina to the police and decides to pay a little attention to the girl, taking her lunch.
