After premiering at the San Sebastian Film Festival in september, “Ex-husbands“, Noah Pritzker’ second film is screening at the 41st Torino Film Festival, out of competition. With Griffin Dunne as the protagonist in the role of a father left in a sort of existential crisis as his wife left him and his sons are basically living their own lives and dramas, the film, to quote Pritzker, “could be perceived as a late coming-of-age for a 67 years old”.
Ex-Husbands’ first idea, reveals Pritzker, started as a way to analyze the brothers, their relationship within each other and their trying to understand their father. Along the writing process, the father emerged as the protagonist.
The director also comments on the fact that, unexpectedly, shaping the protagonist’s personality felt easier than the other characters as they were closer in age to him and it was easier to fall back on his own experience.
Besides Griffin Dunne, the film sees the participation of James Norton, Miles Heizer and Rosanna Arquette.
