PODCAST| Cristiana Palmieri interviews Evi Romen, director and screenwriter of the film Why not you.
Evi Romen explores the making of Why not you and how her motivation to tell this story came from her personal experience and her willingness to portray life in small conservative communities in South Tyrol, an area with almost unique historical roots. In Why not you profound social issues are intertwined with the boundaries of cultural norms, that impose a huge toll on the freedom of individuals who struggle to conform.
Why not you: Mario is full of hope when visiting Rome with best friend Lenz. When tragedy strikes, Mario is forced to return to his narrow-minded South Tyrolean community. Romen’s screenplay casts an illuminating eye on survivor guilt, homophobia and intolerance as Mario’s search for answers leads to a chance reunion with Muslim friend Nadim
