A quick chat with director Emir Kusturica and actresses Monica Bellucci and Sloboda Micalovic on one of the stand out movies of the 73rd Venice Film Festival: On the Milky Road. Upon getting a hold of them shortly after the movie’s official press conference in Venice, we sit down at our Radio Call studio to ask them a few questions.

It took Kusturica over three years to complete this project, and we ask him about why that was and why he was so committed to this particular story. Bellucci and Micalovic then talk about what drew them to the characters and how their attachment to their roles developed throughout the lengthy production.

ON THE MILKY ROAD. Spring in wartime. Each day a milkman crosses the frontline on a donkey, dodging bullets to bring his precious wares to the soldiers. Blessed with good fortune on his mission, loved by a beautiful villager, a peaceful future seems to await him… until the arrival of a mysterious Italian woman turns his life upside down. Thus begins a story of passionate, forbidden love that will plunge them both into a series of fantastic and dangerous adventures. They have been joined by fate, and nothing and no one seems able to stop them…
