PODCAST | Laura Della Corte interviews Denis Dobrovoda, director of the film The Cathedral.
In the interview with Denis Dobrovoda director of The Cathedral at Festival dei Popoli we talked about the process of shooting and also about our search for the truth.
The Cathedral: Moved by an all-encompassing religious sentiment, Justo Gallego has dedicated 60 years of his life to a crazy and ambitious project: the construction of a cathedral in his town, Mejorada del Campo. Without any architectural training and without authorizations, almost always working alone with recycled materials, over the years he has built a grandiose and chaotic structure. Considered by his fellow citizens a madman and an exalted one, the former monk worked with self-denial on the project investing all his resources until, starting from the 2000s, the cathedral was recognized and appreciated by the art world, eventually becoming a ‘tourist attraction. The film uses materials made over several decades to tell the incredible story of Justo and the uncertainties about the future of the cathedral after his death.
