Davis Simanis – Filmmaker – Escaping Riga
FRED’s Matt Micucci meets filmmaker Davis Simanis, whose work “Escaping Riga” was presented at IDFA 2014. He tells us about capturing the essence of the two central subject in his documentary, how he used re-enactments to recreate the style of cinema of the start of the 20th century and whether he considers himself to be more like Eisenstein or Irving Berlin.
“Escaping Riga” is a playful chronicle of the 20th century based on the lives of filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein and political philosopher Isaiah Berlin.
