A conversation with David Uzsák, actor of Zdeněk Jiráský’s feature film Kryštof, that recently premiered at the 2021 Febiofest in Prague, Czech Republic. The film is set in the harshest Stalinish years in Czechoslovakia and the people involved in the illegal transfer of people fleeing to Germany. In this interview, Uzsák talks about working on the film, which also happens to have been his first major role in a movie. He also shares what he likes about both working in the theatre and film and tells us about his journey to becoming an actor.
Kryštof : Czechoslovakia in the era of the harshest Stalinism. Young Kryštof lives as a fresh postulant in a community of monks. In addition to silent prayers, he is also involved in the illegal transfer of people fleeing to Germany. During one of the events, he witnesses a brutal police crackdown on the students and decides to help them. He has no idea that Operation K is underway to destroy the male religious orders. This timeless drama from a tense time follows one man’s struggle for life and dignity.
