Crystal Moselle has a great Sundance hit in her recent past: The Wolfpack won the Great Jury Prize in 2015. While preparing a new doc, she stumbled on this group of teenage girls skaters and everything happened in a rush, with 9 months between preparation and shooting, and the challenge of a narrative feature film to deliver. Her eye as a director changed and she tells us what she learned form this new experience.
Skate Kitchen: Camille is 18 years old and lives at Long Island. Despite the opinion contrary of her mother, the girl has a great passion for the skateboard. Camille discovers online “The Skate Kitchen”, a group of girls that loves to go to skateboard on the streets of New York. Camille joins the gang and she feels finally accepted, but her new friendships will be put to hard test when she will meet a boy that belongs to a rival group of skateboarders. Crystal Moselle drives us to the discovery of the reality of some girls out of the schemes, that claim their place in the community of skateboarders, often populated by men only.
