PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Conrad Vernon, co-director of the film Sausage Party.
After the scandalous success in the US, Sausage Party is finally out in Italy, released on Halloween day to wake up the dead and the sad people to the sound of laughter and irreverent jokes. We have reached Conrad Vernon, co-director of the film with Greg Tiernan, on the phone to talk about the making of the film, compromises and stereotypes. Vernon tells us about the long process that finally took him, Seth Rogen ( producer and voice of the protagonist, the sausage Frank) and Evan Goldberg to do the film. There was the intention of not giving up to compromises: the box office results, the PG 13 possibility, the balance were not conditions and limits they took into consideration. They wanted to do a free film since the beginning and Anna Purna Pictures let them carry on with their project as it was. In order to make fun of everybody and have anyone laughing at the film, the main purpose was to “insult” everybody. To make fun of every race, belief, religion, defect, this was the only way to respect all and really gather the audience under a sort of “fun” umbrella. How do you get, elegantly, into an orgy? A Dirty Dancing theme song can definitely help.
SAUSAGE PARTY is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. The film features the vocal talents of a who’s who of today’s comedy stars – Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.
