PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Chie Hayakawa, director of the film Plan 75.
In her dystopian story about a Plan 75 in Japan that encourages senior citizens to be voluntarily euthanized to remedy a super-aged society, Chie Hayakawa in the Un Certain Regard section at the 75th Festival de Cannes manages to create a dialogue with today’s world. We have no Plan 75 confirms the director but we all know that the situation towards the elderly people is not looking good. Hayakawa also describes how the pandemic affected her 5 years project development and how the film project was supported by Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Plan 75: In a Japan of the near future, government program Plan 75 encourages senior citizens to be voluntarily euthanized to remedy a super-aged society. An elderly woman whose means of survival are vanishing, a pragmatic Plan 75 salesman, and a young Filipino laborer face choices of life and death.
