After Ken Loach’s vigorous keynote speech, former MEP and current coordinator of the LUX Prize of the European Parliament Doris Pack introduces the interventions of two distinguished contemporary European filmmakers on bringing quality films to the public and finding new ways of making them accessible, beyond or even in spite of the way the market operates.
Former LUX Prize finalist Céline Sciamma (Girlhood) talks about a project presently in the making, initiated by films directors to share films of the 21st Century : a potentially pan-European VoD platform, or ‘virtual cinémathèque’, presenting their personal film selections.
Her intervention is followed by former winner Andrea Segre’s expressing his concern for the detrimental aspects of the economic interests the film industry vastly rests on, specifically when it comes to distributing films in local cinemas and clubs driven primarily by a desire to show beautiful films to their community of viewers. The author of Shun Li & the Poet illustrates his words through a quite revealing true story.
