Carlo Chatrian has been appointed today as the new Director of the National Museum of Cinema in Turin – Fondazione Maria Adriana Prolo. His five-year term marks an important milestone for the prestigious Turin-based institution.
The Museum’s Management Committee unanimously supported Chatrian’s appointment, recognizing his strategic vision and extensive international experience as the ideal qualifications to lead the institution in the coming years. His clear outlook on the future of the Museum, combined with his vast knowledge of the cinematic world, made him the perfect candidate for this role.
“I welcome this new adventure with enthusiasm,” said Carlo Chatrian. “I can’t wait to start working with the Museum staff and to support their expertise and professionalism by putting to the service of this institution, which I feel close to, the knowledge gained in years of working abroad and the passion that has always driven me.“
The Committee expressed its heartfelt thanks to Domenico De Gaetano, the former Director, for successfully leading the Museum through complex times. De Gaetano increased visitor numbers and transformed the institution into an internationally recognized cultural hub.
Born in Turin in 1971, Carlo Chatrian built a career as a writer, journalist, and film programmer. He collaborated with prestigious film magazines and institutions in Italy and abroad. Chatrian held key positions at major festivals, including the Locarno Film Festival (2012-2018) and the Berlinale (2020-2024), becoming a leading figure in European cinema.
The National Museum of Cinema in Turin, one of the world’s most important, enters a new phase under Chatrian’s leadership. It aims to strengthen its role as a cultural hub, embracing new cinematic languages and fostering international dialogue.
