A talk with British auteur Joanna Hogg, a member of the jury at the 20th Marrakech Film Festival, where she says she shares friend Tilda Swinton‘s views on considering the group of people she regularly works with as a family, elaborates on Martin Scorsese‘s input on “The Eternal Daughter” and what influenced her or not on that film, insists that she avoids watching too many films while she’s working on her projects, in order not to be influenced, mentions her ‘cinema holiday’ around the work of Chantal Akerman, and Ozu‘s cinema.
The celebrated director of “The Souvenir – Part I & Part II” also tells us about her interest in drawing, and the privileged situation it is, being jury in Marrakech, to be able to really discover a range of films from all over the world, particularly from Morocco and Africa, without any previous knowledge about them.
