Alfredo Corelli, regista della prematuramente scomparsa regista Valentina Pedicini, torna con la memoria 5 anni fa nel 2016, anno in cui portò a Venezia il primo film di finzione di Valentina Era Ieri, che quest’anno, in suo onore, viene riproposto in apertura della sezione.

Era Ieri: Giò e Matteo hanno tredici anni e sono amici fraterni. Il loro regno è un lembo di terra stretto tra il cielo e il mare del Sud Italia. Guidano una banda di ragazzini: qualche furto per sentirsi grandi in una stagione popolata da speranze e giochi infantili. L’amore irrompe in una giornata di fine estate con il volto di Paola: l’amore arriva e capovolge il mondo. Fin dove si spingerà Giò pur di essere ciò che è, pur di seguire il proprio desiderio? La sfida finale è un precipizio da cui si riemerge, cambiati, come un respiro dopo l’apnea. Un abisso nero, un battesimo di fuoco, per raccontare la crudeltà del crescere e il coraggio di scegliere a quale parte di cielo appartenere.
