PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Adrian Sitaru, director of the film The Fixer.
This is a film about the duality of our system of values, that’s how Adrian Sitaru describes his new film The Fixer, screening at the 34th Torino Film Festival. The Romanian director discusses the contrast between the protagonist’ search for truth and the difficulty that human beings encounter in understanding. Adrian Sitaru who is also a member of the official competition jury of the 34th Torino Film Festival, comments on his visual choices such as the strong use of the zoom and close ups.
The Fixer: Radu is doing an apprenticeship as a journalist at a French broadcasting station in Romania and a scandal over an underage prostitution ring between France and Romania seems like his chance to make progress in his career. He’s at an advantage since he knows the language, so when the underage prostitute Anca is repatriated, he offers to interpret for two journalists who have arrived from Paris. But the girl is entrusted to an institution run by nuns, and Radu and his colleagues have a hard time tracking her down and convincing her to talk. Above all, Radu hasn’t taken into account the conflict with his objectives, journalistic ethics and simple human compassion.
