A.V.Rockwell’s debut feature, A Thousand and one, won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film festival in January 2023 and before its italian release on June 29th in Italy, it had its premiere inTaormina Film Fest, the 59th edition.
The film depicts a mother (Taylor) in New York City who will go to extreme lengths to keep her son out of the foster-care system. Taking place along 20 years of changes and the rapid gentrification in New York, A thousand and one is, to quote Rockwell, her way to finally portray a woman of color in a three dimensional way, as funny, strong, fragile and at the same time, a superhero.
