“Riff Raff”, interview with the director Dito Montiel
Dito Montiel, director. "Riff Raff". The crime comedy we needed, with Jennifer Coolidge at her best, and Ed Harris and Bill Murray to join in the fun.
“Riff Raff” by Dito Montiel was presented out of competition at the 42nd Torino Film Festival. The film is a comedy/crime tour de force star studded where everything changes and all characters are equally lovable and annoying at the same time. Dito Montiel talked with Angelo Acerbi about the making of the film that was a demanding and fun ride, dealing with talents such as Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris and Bill Murray, just to name some.
“Family can be complicated” could be the claim for the film
Dito Montiel in “Riff Raff” tells the story of this family that is large and complex and that has to deal with criminals, in their own way. The idea came from a stage play Dito loved and decided to adapt. Then some remarkable cast came on board and all started. managing that cast in ensemble scens was difficult so he let them play.
Plot
Vincent is an ex-criminal who more than anything, just wants a normal, peaceful life. He and his wife Sandy have built a loving family with their son DJ and are spending the winter break in a cabin before he goes off to college. Chaos ensues when Vincent’s disowned son Rocco, his girlfriend Marina and Vincent’s ex-wife Ruth abruptly show up to spoil the festivities with an ominous warning: the famed gangsters Leftie and Lonnie are coming for them.
