“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, interview with director Tim Burton and actors Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega Chiara Nicoletti
Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s award-winning “Beetlejuice“.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“ is the opening film of the 81st Venice International Film Festival and besides reuniting the demon Beetlejuice with Lydia (Winona Ryder) and Delia (Catherine O’Hara) Deetz, it welcomes new characters and new cast members.
In this new adventure, Lydia has a rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, Burton’s “Wednesday“ on Netflix.
Tim Burton explains that he talked a lot over the years with Michael Keaton about doing the sequel but it was never the right time. And then it happened. Michael Keaton reveals that he wasn’t expecting the film to be so emotional and to have so much heart.
Finally, Jenna Ortega describes the beauty of imperfections in the making of the film and how the film can connect to the younger generations, as the first one did with the “Burtonian” adults of today.
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is
accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
