Today, July 12, the Taormina Film Fest 2024 kicks off. It is celebrating its 70th anniversary with an evening dedicated to the Nastri d’Argento at the Ancient Theatre. Organized by the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation and directed by Marco Müller, this edition promises to be an unforgettable event rich in cinema, art, and territorial valorization.
The opening night will feature the Nastri d’Argento, returning to the Ancient Theatre to honour the excellence of Italian comedy. During the evening, the “Premio Manfredi” will be awarded and promoted by Cinematographic Journalists in collaboration with the Manfredi family.
The festival will continue on Saturday, July 13, with the world premiere of Saint Clare, directed by Mitzi Peirone, with actresses Bella Thorne and Rebecca De Mornay in attendance. On Sunday, July 14, it will be the turn of Il giudice e il boss by Pasquale Scimeca, presented by actors Gaetano Bruno, Peppino Mazzotta, and Claudio Castrogiovanni.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Palazzo dei Congressi will host Amos Gitai, a master of Israeli cinema, who will present his latest feature film, Shikun. Additionally, the collective of 22 Palestinian directors will present From Ground Zero, a project supervised by Rashid Masharawi that brings the voice of the Gaza population to Taormina.
Catanese artist Ester Pantano will host the festival, and journalist Elvira Terranova will host the evenings at the Ancient Theatre. On July 14, Producer Carlo Degli Esposti will receive the Golden Cariddi Lifetime Achievement Award.
The foundation’s artistic director, Gianna Fratta, has enriched the cultural offering with theatrical performances, musical shows, and multimedia events. Director Marco Müller has crafted a program that marries international vocation with Sicilian territorial roots, offering a daytime schedule full of must-see films, including Il ladro di stelle cadenti by Francisco Saia and Il cassetto segreto by Costanza Quatriglio.
Don’t miss this special edition, which promises to be a meeting point between cinema, culture, and territory, celebrating 70 years of history and success of the Taormina Film Fest.
