Walter Veltroni torna dietro la macchina da presa per il film Quando, tratto dal suo omonimo libro. Il protagonista è Neri Marcorè, che nel film recita al fianco di Valeria Solarino, nei panni di una suora che si occupa di Giovanni, che si è risvegliato da un coma lungo oltre trent’anni. Dal Bif&st 2023, dove il film è stato presentato in anteprima, e sarà al cinema dal 30 marzo, regista e protagonista parlano del lavoro fatto, tra nostalgia del passato e sguardo sul presente.

Quando: La giovane vita di Giovanni va in pausa nell’estate del 1984 a San Giovanni, a Roma, durante il dolore collettivo per la morte di Enrico Berlinguer, per colpa dell’asta di una bandiera finita tragicamente sulla sua testa. Dopo 31 anni, l’uomo si risveglia dal coma e per lui è come una nuova rinascita, da adulto. Tutto è cambiato, il mondo che aveva lasciato non c’è più: la sua famiglia, la ragazza, il partito tanto amato, tutto in questa nuova epoca è stravolto. Giovanni è come un bambino cinquantenne. Deve imparare a muoversi in questa nuova dimensione, accettando anche la perdita dei vecchi legami e la scoperta di nuovi.
