German film director Wieland Speck was in the jury of the feature film competition of the 31st Torino Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. We caught up with him for a chat on his experience and more.
Wieland Speck (1951) studied German Literature, Drama and Ethnology at the Freie Universität in Berlin and cinema at the San Francisco Art Institute. At the same time, he has also been artistic director of the Tali-Kino, an independent arthouse cinema, and directed and produced feature films, documentaries and tv series. In 1982, he was appointed assistant to Manfred Salzgeber, who was responsible for the Berlinale Panorama section. In this role, in 1987 he founded the Teddy Award, the most important European showcase for the LGBTQ cinema worldwide. In 1992, he was appointed director of the Panorama section.
