Josephine Decker (Director)
Fred’s Chiara Nicoletti meets Josephine Decker, special guest on the WAVES – ONDE retrospective at the 32nd Torino Film Festival dedicated to her work.
Josephine Decker has been appointed as one of the America’s independent filmmakers to keep an eye on. In february 2014 she presented two of her films at the Berlinale Forum, Thou Wast Mild and Lovely and Butter on the latch. Her recent IFP screenings in New York were all sold out.
The secret to Decker’s success could certainly be the combination of various elements:
– Her films being character driven, instinctive and subjective
– The interweaving of various genres and themes: horror, thriller, melò, erotism, feminism, documentary and mockumentaries
– Her being a performer, artist, musician, actress and filmmaker
– the collaboration and work with Joe Swanberg and Ashley Connor
Josephine Decker also talks about Texas and how much her work was influenced by growing up in Dallas.
