The 81st Venice International Film Festival, taking place from September 7, 2024, has officially announced its prestigious International Jury for the Venezia 81 Competition. Chaired by acclaimed French actress Isabelle Huppert, the jury is composed of renowned film professionals from around the globe.
The jury will present the prestigious Golden Lion for Best Film and other significant awards during the 81st Venice International Film Festival’s closing ceremony on September 7 at the Palazzo del Cinema, Venice Lido.
Isabelle Huppert has a distinguished career, winning multiple awards, including the Best Actress award at Cannes and the Coppa Volpi award at Venice. She has collaborated with notable directors like Claude Chabrol and Michael Haneke.
James Gray made his directorial debut with “Little Odessa,” earning the Silver Lion at Venice. His notable works include “We Own the Night” and “The Lost City of Z.”
Andrew Haigh gained recognition with “45 Years,” and his recent film, “All of Us Strangers,” received critical acclaim and multiple nominations.
Agnieszka Holland‘s career spans several decades, with notable films such as “Europa Europa” and “The Green Border,” the latter of which won the Special Jury Prize at Venice in 2023.
Kleber Mendonça Filho is known for his impactful films “Aquarius” and “Bacurau,” the latter of which won the Jury Prize at Cannes.
Abderrahmane Sissako directed the Oscar-nominated “Timbuktu,” his works often explore African and global issues.
Giuseppe Tornatore is celebrated worldwide for “Cinema Paradiso,” which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Julia von Heinz has made significant contributions to German cinema with films like “And Tomorrow the Entire World” and “Treasure,” the latter earning her the German Cinema for Peace Award.
Zhang Ziyi is a globally recognized actress for her roles in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.” She recently made her directorial debut with “Poem.”
