The 81st Venice International Film Festival ended a short while ago with the announcement of the winners.
The winners of the Venezia81 official selection
The jury of this edition, chaired by Isabelle Huppert and composed of James Gray, Andrew Haigh, Agnieszka Holland, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Giuseppe Tornatore, Julia von Heinz, Zhang Ziyi decided to award these films:
- Golden Lion for Best Film to “The Room Next Door” by Pedro Almodóvar
- Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize to “Vermiglio” by Maura Delpero
- Silver Lion – Best Director Award to Bradly Corbet for “The Brutalist”
- Coppa Volpi for Best Actress to Nicole Kidman for “Babygirl” by Halina Reijn
- Coppa Volpi for Best Actor to Vincent Lindon for “Jouer Avec le Feu” by Delphine Coulin, Muriel Coulini
- Special Jury Prize to “April” by Dea Kulumbegashvili
- Best Screenplay Award to “Ainda Estou Aqui” by Walter Salles
- Marcello Mastroianni Prize for an emerging young actor or actress to Paul Kircher for “Leurs Enfants Après Eux” by Zoran Boukherma, Ludovic Boukherma
The winners of the Orizzonti selection
The Orizzonti jury, chaired by US director and screenwriter Debra Granik with the jury members Ali Asgari, Soudade Kaadan, Christos Nikou, Tuva Novotny, Gábor Reisz, Valia Santella, awarded the following film:
- Orizzonti Award for Best Film to “The new year that never came” by Bogdan Mureşanu
- Orizzonti Prize for Best Director to “Familiar Touch” by Sarah Friedland
- Special Orizzonti Jury Prize to “One of those days when Hemme dies” by Murat Fıratoğlu
- Orizzonti Prize for Best Actress in a Female Role to Kathleen Chalfant for “Familiar Touch” by Sarah Friedland
- Orizzonti Award for Best Male Actor to Francesco Gheghi for “Familia” by Francesco Costabile
- Orizzonti Prize for Best Screenplay for “Happy Holiday” by Scandar Copti
- Orizzonti Prize for Best Short Film to “Who Loves The Sun” by Arshia Shakiba
The winner of the Venice Opera Prima ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ Award
The Venezia Opera Prima ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ Jury, presided over by the Italian film critic Gianni Canova and composed of Ricky D’Ambrose, Barbara Paz, Taylor Russell, Jacob Wong from among all the first feature-length films presented in the various competitive sections of the Venice Film Festival (Official Selection and Autonomous and Parallel Sections), has awarded its prize to:
- Leone del Futuro – Premio Venezia Opera Prima ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ to “Familiar Touch” by Sarah Friedland
The film will receive USD 100,000, made available by Filmauro, which will be divided equally between the director and the producer.
